High Efficiency Range Hoods

Every Proline HE range hood uses a variable frequency drive (VFD)—motor-control technology commonly used in commercial ventilation—engineered into a residential range hood. The system converts standard 120V single-phase household power into a controlled three-phase output for the HE blower motor. By continuously adjusting the motor’s frequency and voltage, it provides smooth, precise airflow control across the blower’s designed operating range instead of limiting you to four fixed speeds.


Available in 1200 and 1700 CFM local configurations and as well as 1300 CFM inline across wall-mounted, island, insert, and under-cabinet models, with 304 stainless-steel and outdoor-rated options. Every HE hood includes a 10-year warranty and is ETL Listed.

Three-phase power from a standard outlet

Many commercial ventilation systems use three-phase motors because they provide smooth, efficient operation. Most homes, however, are supplied with single-phase power. Our HE control system uses that standard household power to operate and precisely control a compatible three-phase HE blower motor.

Single-phase power enters

A standard 120V household outlet supplies single-phase alternating current to the HE control system.

AC is converted to DC

Inside the VFD, a rectifier converts the incoming AC power into DC power. Capacitors smooth and stabilize this power in the drive’s DC bus.

Controlled three-phase output is created

The inverter section electronically produces a variable-frequency, three-phase AC output specifically matched to the blower motor.

Blower speed is precisely controlled

By adjusting the output frequency and voltage, the VFD controls the motor across its designed operating range—providing smooth acceleration and more precise airflow control than fixed-speed settings.

Common questions

What does high efficiency actually mean here?

It refers to how the motor is driven. A variable frequency drive receives a three-phase waveform from your single-phase household power, so the motor receives the exact frequency it needs at any speed rather than being throttled down from full power.

How is this different from a four-speed hood?

A four-speed hood gives you four fixed options. These blowers use a variable control, so you can hold any speed between off and maximum.

Is the 1300 inline blower a high efficiency model?

The 1300 inline is a variable-speed standard-efficiency blower. It is on this page because it solves a different problem: it mounts in the ductwork, away from the kitchen, which makes it the quietest option and the right choice for long or complex duct runs.

What is the difference between a local blower and an inline blower?

A local blower mounts inside the range hood itself. An inline blower mounts in the ductwork, usually in an attic or ceiling space, which moves the motor noise away from where you are standing.

Do these need special wiring?

These operate on standard 120V. Installation requirements depend on your hood and duct configuration, so check the install guide for your model.

What size duct do these need?

All three blowers use a 10 inch outlet.
