Remodeling your kitchen is a lot of work. There are so many different options when it comes to design, appliances, paint...you name it.
One appliance that’s gaining popularity is the wall oven. Are you considering a wall oven for your home? You might wonder: Can I install an over-the-range microwave above a wall oven?
You can install an over-the-range microwave above a wall oven. However, it depends on the manufacturer. Before you jump into the installation, consult the manufacturer’s instructions. Over-the-range microwaves are not the same as built-in microwaves, so it’s important to double check the owner’s manual.
There are three main types of microwaves: countertop microwaves, built-in microwaves, and over-the-range microwaves. Countertop microwaves go on your countertop. Built-in microwaves are installed in your wall. And over-the-range microwaves mount over your range.
A small number of microwaves vent to the outside. You probably don’t want to deal with this hassle. Venting a built-in microwave over a wall oven to the outside is a lot of work and can get quite expensive.
A ductless microwave isn’t as much of a hassle, but the fan on top will take up more space. If you already have one or two wall ovens on your wall, you might not want to fit a fan on top as well.
You’ll also need to consider accessibility. If you stack a wall oven and microwave, can you still reach your microwave? What about your kids? Do you want them to have access to it? These are a few things to consider as you start your kitchen remodel.
Your best option will likely be installing a microwave and wall oven combo. Or you can install a built-in microwave separately using a microwave trim kit.
A microwave trim kit includes stainless steel housing that you install around your microwave.
It also features a stand that you put inside your wall for the microwave to sit. This keeps the microwave from overheating. It also prevents damage to your surrounding walls or cabinets. Learn more about microwave trim kits in the video below.
For over your range, invest in a professional range hood to keep smoke and cooking exhaust out of your kitchen.
Be sure to turn on your range hood while cooking, especially if you are using more than one oven.
You can also find double wall ovens if you need the extra power in your kitchen. Sometimes one oven is smaller than the other. This saves space and it's more practical for people who may not need both ovens all the time.
