How much force would a 900 CFM blower have?
A 900 CFM blower moves air at a rate of 900 cubic feet per minute. It’s capable of handling heavy grease and smoke, but it’s not quite powerful enough for outdoor range hoods or those who cook Asian foods and other strong-smelling foods every day. It is the perfect fit for those who enjoy cooking so long as it is enough to meet the minimum requirements of your range. Here’s more information on meeting those requirements.
What is the difference between 900 CFM and 1200 CFM?
900 CFM range hoods are professional range hoods for your home. These are high-quality high-powered hoods that will accommodate nearly all of your needs for your indoor kitchen. In contrast, 1200 CFM hoods offer even more flexibility. Unlike 900 CFM hoods, you can install a 1200 CFM hood in your outdoor kitchen. These impressive hoods are capable of venting grease and smoke from your grill. They also effectively regulate the temperature in your outdoor kitchen, as outdoor grills can become hot quickly.
For residential applications, it is quite rare that you will need more than 1200 CFM for your range hood. You just won’t be producing smoke and steam at a high enough rate to warrant that amount of power. But you might consider it if your range needs it or if you want your hood to span multiple ranges or grills in your outdoor kitchen. If you are worried about having enough power, we always tell our customers to err on the side of higher-CFM hoods, because you can typically use them at lower speeds. And that way you always have the extra power if you need it.
Lastly, 1200 CFM is a reliable amount of power for island range hoods, which are exposed to your kitchen air on all sides. Thus they require more power to consistently move the air from your cooktop in your kitchen.
What size duct for 900 CFM?
For a 900 CFM range hood, use 8” duct. Refer to the duct sizing chart below.
What roof cap do I need for a 900 CFM range hood?
Use an 8” roof cap for a 900 CFM range hood.
The size of your roof cap depends on the size of your range hood duct. In turn, the size of your range hood duct depends on the CFM of your hood. The higher the CFM, the larger duct you need, and consequently the larger roof cap you’ll need.
This is because your range hood needs to move all the air outside your home without restriction or obstruction. The more powerful it is, the more air it moves, but that air cannot be moved efficiently with small ductwork. It “chokes” the airflow, making it much less efficient.

The PLFW 129J is another addition to our 129 range hood series, and it has some distinct differences between the 129 and 129E. With the 129J, you’ll enjoy six versatile blower speeds. This gives you a little more flexibility if you use the lower speeds often, or you want to run your range hood on low for a few minutes to improve your kitchen ventilation. This wall hood features a backlit LED control panel with a digital display. The digital display is nice because it displays the time and the current blower speed.
Like the other 129 models, you’ll enjoy long-lasting LED lights to help you see clearly in the kitchen. Stainless steel baffle filters will catch heavy grease and dirt as it moves outside your home.
ProSW
The ProSW is one of our most popular professional range hoods. It was manufactured with crisp square edges, unlike our 129 models which are built with curved corners. The front edge is a little wider than the 129 models as well, so if you like the style, this is a great 900 CFM hood for you! The LED lights are situated in the front of the hood to ensure your range is fully illuminated. This model is available in 900 CFM at 30” and 36” widths, and an impressive 1800 CFM at 42”, 48”, 54”, and 60” widths.
