What's a Chimney Extension?
A chimney extension is an additional chimney accessory for your range hood that attaches to your existing chimney or directly to your range hood and covers your ductwork. If you need more chimney than your hood comes with – or if your hood doesn't come with a chimney at all – that's when you would want to buy a chimney extension.

Do I Need a Chimney Extension?
Many range hoods come with chimneys, typically wall-mounted hoods or island hoods. For standard ceiling heights (8-9 feet), you usually won't need an additional extension. However, for high ceilings, an extension may be necessary.
Key Factors to Consider:
- Ceiling Height: Standard chimneys accommodate 8-9' ceilings
- Hood Mounting Distance: 28-36" from cooktop (indoor), 36-42" (outdoor)
- Hood Type: Wall mount and island hoods come with chimneys; inserts and under-cabinet hoods don't

- 11'+ Ceilings: Custom fabrication required
For ceilings higher than 12', you'll need custom extensions from a local metal fabrication shop.
