How to Clean Black Appliances

How to Clean Black Appliances - Proline Range Hoods

Do you own black appliances? A stainless steel fridge, stovetop, range hood, blender, toaster, dishwasher...? If so, you know that cleaning them can be quite a chore. It can be hard to know when they’re dirty – not to mention that scratches aren’t as visible on black appliances either.

Luckily, you can pretty much use the same strategy as cleaning stainless steel appliances. Just make sure that you are a little more thorough. It’s hard to see what’s caked on your black appliances because of the color.

Here are six steps to make your black appliances look like new.

  1. Wipe off loose dirt and grime with a damp washcloth.
  2. Mix two tablespoons of baking soda with a couple of squirts of dish soap. Add dish soap until you have a pasty consistency.
  3. Dip a scrubby sponge into the paste and scrub the appliance.
  4. For tough stains, spread the paste on the stain with a towel.
  5. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. Wipe the black appliance clean with a microfiber cloth.
  7. Spray it with vinegar and water.
  8. Dry it with a microfiber cloth.

What You Need

  • Baking soda
  • Dish soap
  • Scrubby sponge
  • A couple of microfiber cloths
  • A couple of washcloths

Wipe off loose dirt and grime with a damp washcloth.

To make cleaning black appliances easier, wipe off all the loose grease and dirt before starting the deep clean.

Mix two tablespoons of baking soda with a couple of squirts of dish soap. Add dish soap until you have a pasty consistency.

The dish soap and baking soda mixture will tackle difficult grease stains on your black appliances. Make the paste in a medium-sized bowl. The paste should be too thick to put in a spray bottle.

Dip a scrubby sponge into the paste, and scrub the appliance.

Once you have the desired consistency of your paste, use a scrubby sponge to break down the grease and grime.

For tough stains, spread the paste on the stain with a towel.

You might have a stain that just won’t come off, no matter what. In that case, don’t use lots of harsh scrubbing. Just spread the paste on the stain and let it break down the grime for you.

Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes.

Wipe the black appliance clean with a microfiber cloth.

If you wipe the black appliance too early, the stain might still be stuck on there. So, be sure to wait at least 10 minutes or even longer.

If the stain still doesn’t come off, just make more paste and repeat the process.

Spray it with vinegar and water.

Now comes the fun part. You’ve cleaned all the caked grease and baked-on food, but your black appliances still lack the luster and shine when you bought them.

To keep black appliances shiny, spray them with a light coat of vinegar and water. Just pour equal parts water and vinegar into a spray bottle and you’re set.

Dry it with a microfiber cloth.

If your black appliance has a grain, be sure to dry the appliance with the grain for the best results.

How do you get smudges off black appliances?

Smudges are quite visible on black appliances, so it’s important to have a few strategies in your back pocket to keep black appliances shiny.

  1. Spray the appliance with a kitchen degreaser or stove top cleaner.
  2. Spray the appliance with a mixture of equal parts vinegar and water.
  3. Spray the appliance with glass cleaner.

Are black appliances hard to keep clean?

Black appliances are not harder to keep clean than stainless steel or white appliances. But, it can be harder to see the grease and grime on a black appliance. Set a reminder every week or two to clean your stove top, blender, dishwasher, or whatever other black appliances you own.
