1. Mark the center of where your range hood will be on the wall.
Make sure that you mount your hood between 28 and 36 inches from the cooktop.
2. Mark the location of a stud, so you can anchor your hood to it later.
3. Use a piece of cardboard to make a template.
On this template, you’ll have to trace a few things.
- Trace the back of your range hood.
- Trace the mounting points.
- Mark the center point of your hood on the cardboard.
- Poke holes through the cardboard at your mounting points.
4. Line up the center of your cardboard with the center point you marked on the wall in Step 1.
5. Poke through the cardboard to mark your mounting points.
You can use your screwdriver or marking pencil
6. Drill a hole for the wall anchors.
7. Install wall anchors and drill screws into the anchors. Leave a quarter-inch of space where your hood will hang.
Don’t drill the screws all the way into the anchors. Leave some space for your hood to hang. In a few steps, you’ll tighten the screws.
8. Install ceiling bracket.
Mark the center point on your bracket. Line it up with the center point on your wall at the ceiling.
Drill the two front screws into the ceiling bracket to mount it firmly to the wall.
The ceiling bracket also has two screw holes on each side, where the chimney will attach to the wall.
9. Hang the range hood.
Note: Our PLFW 544 weighs up to 50 pounds, so you may want to ask a friend to help mount it to the wall.
10. Tighten the mounting screws to secure the hood in place.
11. Locate your stud and drill a grabber screw through the mounting bracket into the stud.
Important: You cannot skip this step. It is vital to drill a grabber screw through a stud to support the full weight of your range hood.
12. Feed your duct through the wall and seal it to the range hood using aluminum tape.
Check out our guide on how to seal a range hood vent for more information.
13. Plug your hood into the nearest outlet. Use an extension cord if necessary.
14. Remove the protective coating from chimney sleeves.
15. Install chimney by drilling two screws into the ceiling bracket on each side.
16. Install mesh filters.
Be sure to peel off any protective coating before installing these in your range hood. Press the latch on the mesh filter to secure it in place.
